Saint-Gobain Recherche is one of the four enterprise-wide R&D centres, whose main aim is to be an appealing centre for scientific talent. Each year many researchers and technicians are recruited.
Our employee profiles
The wealth of talents in our company resides above all in the diversity of our educational backgrounds and the skills of our employees who join us every year.
Researchers recruited in Saint-Gobain Recherche come from engineering schools or universities in France and abroad. The majority have a PhD (87%). Some completed their background with work experience either in France or abroad.
Research technicians are employed with a Bac+2/3 level.
20 nationalities are represented.
Recruitment process
If you want to apply, just apply for the post which best suits your profile and send us your application via e-mail. Make sure that you respect this procedure and take note of the appropriate address in order to guarantee that your application is considered.
Certain recruitments require detailed analysis, considering the many applications received: if you do not hear from us, consider your application as still being under review.

After employment
Whatever your particular situation, meetings are organised within your first three months. to quickly familiarise yourself with all the procedures and necessary tools required in your day-to-day job. You will find all this useful information on our intranet site. The company guided tour allows you to discover the Saint-Gobain group and the different departments of Saint-Gobain Recherche.
An interview with the Managing Director and the Corporate Secretary is also organised following your trial period. This allows us to review your progress together with you and to hear your thoughts and impressions, which help us to continually improve.
Practical questions
If you are a foreign national, the Human Resources department will help you with administrative procedures, such as filling in your work permit application form, either for the prefecture or for the Direction de la Concurrence, du Travail et de l'Emploi (Employment Agency).
If you do not have any accomodation in Paris or the Greater Paris Area (French nationals from elsewhere in France or foreign nationals), we can help you in your search for accomodation by putting you in contact with an estate agency.

After post-doctoral research on the deposit of piezoelectric materials by magnetron, Jia Mei was taken on at Saint-Gobain Recherche in May 2010 as a research engineer working on electrochromic glazing.
It was during her post-doctorate at CIRIMAT, the University Paul Sabatier in Toulouse that Jia Mei first heard of Saint-Gobain Recherche. The Singaporean had been in France for a year and a half and her French was still a bit shaky but she still decided to send in her CV.
During two trips to Paris, she had several interviews with group and department managers and with the Human Resources Department and Management. Although the technical interviews were in English, they always included a more general part in French. "At first, especially the language made things difficult," she recalls, "but people are understanding and try to speak more slowly or in English. Even so, it was not always easy."
Because of her nationality, Jia Mei needs a visa and a work permit to stay in France. "The Human Resources department found a very efficient outside agency for me which has dealt with all the procedures. I simply gave them the necessary information and documents. It's a long process but as the agency deals with everything, I haven't had to worry about it," she says with a smile. "They also found accommodation for me in the Paris area."
Today Jia Mei is working on electrochromic glazing. "It's a really interesting project because there is always something new to learn, even now. What pleases me at Saint-Gobain Research, is working on products that we can see around us in everyday life," she explains.
"It's highly satisfying to be able to say: it is my team that works on this!"

After a PhD at ESPCI (Ecole Supérieure de Physique et de Chimie Industrielle - Higher School of Physics and Industrial Chemistry) in the laboratory of Physical Chemistry of Polymers and Dispersed Media, Juliette applied for an engineering research job in her field. She was finally taken on to work for the Thin Films Department.
"After my PhD, I applied for a position working in polymers for Saint-Gobain Recherche's PCRS department," says Juliette. Invited for the technical interviews, it was suggested that she also apply for another position in the thin films field. She agreed and was finally taken on as a research engineer working on thin films.
"The first position matched my PhD subject whereas the second is more oriented towards physics. In fact, Saint-Gobain Recherche values the PhD as a whole and does not focus exclusively on the scientific knowledge it has provided. In my case, they were seeking to put a little chemistry into a physics department. There is a genuine desire to blend expertise."
Her initial project as a research engineer on electrochromic glazing was indeed at the interface between physics and chemistry. "I was able contribute my knowledge of chemistry to develop expertise and analytical tools that did not previously exist in the department." Since then, she has been working on another study, more physics oriented, on multi-coated glass for automotive.
"I have learned a great deal," she stresses. "About glass products, solid state physics, glass optics, thin films etc. It has enabled me to gain knowledge of a variety of areas and has opened up opportunities that alone I would not have dared venture into. It's a real opportunity!"
