Working in Saint-Gobain Recherche also means sharing our values.

Our values are part of Saint-Gobain's principles of Conduct and Action. They inspire us each day and they allow us to share the same culture, to improve our performances and to successfully carry out our assignments.

The SHARING OF KNOWLEDGE is an essential value: it is a key element in the training and development of individuals, thereby encouraging exchange in our day-to-day work. It also allows us to impart our knowledge and skills.

OPENESS is also encouraged. Firstly, being open with others, with customers and the academic world, open to diversity but also to scientific awareness and intellectual availability, all key elements in our research projects.

TEAM SPIRIT is important for employees. It is thanks to this team spirit that we can exchange ideas, coordinate our efforts to the benefit of a common goal and always be at the forefront of innovation.

And finally, Saint-Gobain Recherche promotes INITIATIVE. "To dare", "to suggest", promote the development of new ideas, plan for the future are qualities which all our teams share.

Above all, however, it is ENTHUSIASM which is the driving force of Saint-Gobain Recherche. It is this driving force which allows us to innovate, defend our ideas and to work together on all our projects.

Morgane
Research Engineer

Composites and Coatings Department

After completing a thesis on Organic Chemistry, Morgane joined the Saint-Gobain Recherche teams in March 2011.

A research engineer, with sport in her blood, she is currently responsible for managing 3 materials chemistry research projects.

“My work consists in carrying out laboratory experiments, supervising research work, carrying out tests and making regular visits to client factories. This is my first experience of work in the private sector, but I have rediscovered the “friendly lab” aspect that I knew while preparing my thesis” Morgane said. “We swap ideas with lots of different people from other groups and Departments.”

This is how she discovered she had things in common with Johnny, a technician from another Department. At the end of 2011, and 1 month apart, Johnny took part in the Diagonale des Fous, and Morgane took part in the Raid l’Arbre Vert Amazones
In June 2012, along with 6 other employees from Saint-Gobain Recherche, they both competed in the “Course contre la Faim”, an inter-company solidarity race. “For each kilometre completed, the company contributed €15 to the association ‘Action contre la Faim’ (Action against Hunger). This year there were 112 of us from the Group who took part and Saint-Gobain finished 3rd!” Morgane informed us with pride.

After this she had the idea, with Johnny, of persuading Saint-Gobain Recherche to get involved in a sporting event. “It’s true that Johnny and I often used to talk about our respective races, and we were keen to start something here internally, in one form or another, to try and use sport to bring people closer together” she explained.
In order to do this they got in touch with Gérald Fafet, Chief Executive of Saint-Gobain Recherche, and suggested a number of sporting challenges. In the end it was the Parisienne race that was selected. “SGR identifies with the values of the Parisienne. It is a women-only race that supports research into breast cancer and it is SGR’s stated aim to promote women in science and research, as can be seen from our slogan - Sporty Girls in Research.”

With the help of the SGR Works Council Sports Commission, they produced t-shirts for D day. “I am of course interested in sporting achievements, but I think that we are all also proud to be wearing our company’s colours. The team will comprise 20 women, which will allow us to get to know each other, to find out about each other’s interests and exchange ideas.”

And what about next year? “It will be the Parisienne or something else, maybe … There will only be women taking part in the race this year. The next event may allow men to take part too!”
